Oooops, do I dare say that infamous ‘four letter word’-SNOW? Well, it is in the forecast right now, so please don’t blame me for jinxing anything! I will blame Mother Nature on this one. As the likelihood of having to stay home with the kids looks inevitable at some point in the near future, here’s another round of some fun things to try out with them…for children of all ages (including your littlest ones!) and all abilities (To the parents of special needs children- I have you covered! Most of these can be very easily adaptable for children with disabilities.).snow2

Let’s start off with Disney Baby’s 20 Ways to Beat the Polar Vortex. Remember those sub-zero temperatures we have been getting for the past two years now? It doesn’t necessarily have to be a “snow day” for schools to cancel any more (understandably why). I was very excited to see that my childhood favorite activity is on this list (# 4)! My siblings and I, however, expanded the forts….it included “secret tunnels” (-not my idea). For those of you who are already counting down the days until Spring arrives, check out # 7 on this list. Also, be sure to take a look at the edible finger paint at the bottom of the page, which is great if you have both a baby and an older kid.

Calling all snow enthusiasts!

I shamefully admsnow3it, I love the snow. I definitely do not care to drive in it at all though! However, playing in it, having snowball fights, making a snowman, and sledding (which I still did in college) I have not grown out of…yet! If you want a change from these typical outdoor activities on snowy days, help yourself to Parents’ 20+ Fun Activities to Do in the SnowBeing kept inside the house can play a toll on both us adults and for our kids, so get out there and have some fun!

Bring school home

Just because you’re “stuck” at home doesn’t mean the learning has to stop. If it’s too frigid to go outside and play, you can easily work on patterns, puzzles or board games together (and get both fine and gross motor skills work done). Help them with their literacy by reading stories or improve on their writing skills (any homework to catch up on?). Maybe do a little baking (you can get some math in here with this one) and have yummy treats for yourselves afterwards. For the adventurous, try out Science fun . You probably already have virtually all of these required ingredients in your home. snow1

I hope your next snow day is filled with much fun and also that some of these activities will help decrease the boredom your kids may feel, especially if your child is energetic or has a short attention span, like mine! Don’t forget, a good movie, with some hot chocolate, while snuggling on the sofa with a blanket and pillows, together with your kids, is always a good and relaxing option too! Make popcorn and have a “Snow day ‘at’ the movies”!
